    On the same day, 166 people who work in the arts published a letter in the Guardian calling on Tate to end its sponsorship relationship with BP. “In the year since its catastrophic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, BP has massively ramped up its investment in controversial tar sands extraction in Canada, has been shown to have been a key backer of the Mubarak regime in Egypt, and has attempted to commence drilling for oil in the Arctic Ocean.

    Protesters descended on Heathrow today in a coordinated attempt to highlight the fact that the aviation industry pays no VAT.
    In a protest modelled on those recently seen at Oxford Street stores like Vodafone and Topshop by protest group UK Uncut, over 100 campaigners from TakeVAT and other direct action groups such as Plane Stupid ran around terminal 3 at Heathrow airport ‘confiscating items’.

    Vodafone closed its Oxford Street store in the face of protesters angry that the firm has been let off a potential £6bn tax bill amid deep welfare cuts.
    Vodafone has confirmed the shop will remain shut until it is safe to open it again.
    However, it disputes not paying a £6bn tax bill.
    The firm said that it had been in negotiations with HM Revenue and Customs regarding a tax assessment, but did not know where the £6bn figure had come from.

    Hundreds of demonstrators have stopped 375,000 gallons of fuel from leaving a depot after blockading the road to an oil refinery.
    Police were forced to close the road after 100′s of protesters created several blockades along the only road route to the refinary.
    One block of 12 women handcuffed themselves to lorries parked to deliberately block the main road leading to the Coryton refinery in Essex.
    Demonstrators  stopped traffic getting to and from the site, which exacerbates climate change.
